We've been selling Modern Flames since 2018. This guide covers every current series and walks you through the same decision process we use when customers call us for advice.

Five Series, Ranked by Realism
From the most lifelike flame on the market to the best budget option.
Modern Flames Orion Multi
The Orion Multi is Modern Flames' flagship. Heliovision technology uses LCD screens instead of LED lights, creating multi-dimensional flames that look dramatically more realistic than any LED-based electric fireplace. Three flame patterns (wood burning, gas, hybrid), six flame colors, adjustable speed, crackling sound, and full app control with Alexa/Google integration.
What sets the Multi apart from the Slim is the deeper body. An 18" high viewing area with a 5" deep ember bed visible from the side, plus a tall clean glass front. That depth creates the sense of looking into a real firebox. The Multi also supports 240V wiring (10,000 BTU) and is the only linear Orion with multi-sided capability for corner, peninsula, or bay installations.
Trade-off: Requires ~9" of wall depth. Fine for new construction. If you need a thinner wall, look at the Orion Slim below.
Our take: If budget allows and you have the wall depth, this is the electric fireplace we recommend most. The realism gap between this and everything else on the market is noticeable.
Modern Flames Orion Slim
The Orion Slim uses the same Heliovision LCD technology as the Multi. Same three flame patterns, six colors, crackling sound, and app control. The viewing area is 15" high with a tinted front glass that reduces glare.
The key advantage is depth. The Slim fits into a standard 2x6 wall, making it far easier to install in existing homes. It can also be wall-mounted directly on a flat surface with minimal protrusion.
Trade-off: Single-sided only (no corner installs). 120V only, capped at 5,000 BTU. Shallower ember bed means slightly less depth perception than the Multi.
Our take: For most residential living rooms, the Slim is the sweet spot. Unless you need multi-sided or 240V, this gives you 90% of the Multi experience at a lower price with significantly easier installation.
Orion V2 — Launching Early 2026
Modern Flames is releasing V2 across all Orion models. Here's what's changing:

Modern Flames Landscape Pro Slim
The Landscape Pro Slim is Modern Flames' LED flagship. Full RGB color spectrum across flame, ember bed, and downlighting, all independently controlled. Hundreds of possible color combinations, significantly more than the Orion's 18 displays. Want orange flames with a blue ember bed? Done.
Edge-to-edge viewing area with no visible frame creates a clean, modern look. Comes with Canyon Driftwood log set and black/clear acrylic crystal media. Like the LP Multi, the LP Slim is rated for outdoor use in covered areas, making it one of only two Modern Flames linear models suitable for a covered patio or lanai.
Trade-off: LED flames vs. LCD. The Landscape Pro looks like a really good electric fireplace. The Orion looks like fire. If realism is priority one, Orion wins. If color variety and a lower price matter more, this is the better buy.
Our take: Our most recommended fireplace for customers who want lots of color options without Orion pricing. The 68" and 80" are the most popular sizes.
Modern Flames Landscape Pro Multi
Same Hybrid-FX flame technology and full RGB color control as the Landscape Pro Slim, but in a deeper body supporting multi-sided viewing. Corner, peninsula, and bay installations. Supports 240V for 10,000 BTU heat.
Comes with three ember bed media options and is rated for outdoor use under a specified overhang. One of the few premium electric fireplaces suitable for a covered patio.
Our take: If you need a corner or 3-sided fireplace and the Orion Multi is outside your budget, this is an excellent alternative. The RGB color spectrum gives you more customization than the Orion, and the outdoor rating is a real differentiator.
Modern Flames Spectrum Slimline
Modern Flames' most accessible linear fireplace. At under 5" deep, it recesses into a standard 2x4 wall. No special framing, no furring out. Plugs into a standard 120V outlet, making it one of the easiest installations in the lineup.
Flame and ember bed colors independently controlled with 10 options each. Slim 5/8" trim maximizes the viewing area. Driftwood logs and Glacier Glass crystal media included.
Trade-off: 10 preset colors (not full RGB). No WiFi/app, remote and touch panel only. No multi-sided option. Simpler package, simpler price.
Our take: If you have a 2x4 wall and don't want to fur it out, this is your best Modern Flames option, full stop. Also our top pick for remodels where the wall is already built.
Converting an Existing Fireplace?
Two options: the most realistic insert available, or a solid budget-friendly alternative.
Modern Flames Orion Traditional
The Orion Traditional brings the same Heliovision LCD technology into a classic firebox format. Three flame styles, six colors, 18 total displays, 10-color ember bed, multi-color downlighting, and crackling sound. The LED-lit Driftwood log set is detailed and convincing.
Optional surround trim kits fill the gap between the unit and your existing opening for retrofit installations. The unit slides in, no complex construction required.
Voltage note: The 26" and 30" are 120V only (5,000 BTU). The 36", 42", and 54" are 240V capable with up to 8,300 BTU, a meaningful heat upgrade worth planning for.
Our take: If you're converting a masonry fireplace and want it to look as close to real fire as possible, this is the answer. Customers regularly tell us guests think it's a real fireplace.
Modern Flames Redstone
The Redstone is Modern Flames' value play in the traditional category, and it's legitimately good. Hybrid-FX flame technology with 10 independently controlled colors for flame, ember bed, and downlighting. Acrylic crystal media and Driftwood logs included.
The biggest practical advantage: plug it into a standard outlet. No electrician. Slide it into your existing fireplace, add the trim, done.
Trim kit note: Insert surround kits available for 26", 30", and 36" only. The 42" and 54" are built-in/flush-mount only.
Our take: Our go-to for "convert my old fireplace without spending a fortune." Especially in the 26–36" range with trim kits, it's a straightforward retrofit that looks great. The Orion Traditional is a meaningful step up in realism, but the Redstone is no slouch.
