Best Electric Fireplaces 2026
Best Electric Fireplaces 2026
Four types of electric fireplaces. One clear winner in each category. Picked by the team that sells and supports these products every day.
Most "best electric fireplace" lists are written by people who have never touched the products they recommend. They mix $150 Amazon units with serious fireplaces and rank them based on affiliate commissions, not quality.
We're an authorized dealer for every brand on this page. We sell these fireplaces, answer customer questions about them, and handle the occasional support call when something needs attention. That gives us a perspective most review sites don't have: we know which products customers are happiest with six months after installation.
Instead of a one-size-fits-all ranking, we've organized this guide by fireplace type. There are four distinct categories of electric fireplaces, and the best choice depends on your project. Pick the type that matches your space, then dive deeper from there.

Modern Flames Orion Slim 60" (OR60-SLIM)
Linear electric fireplaces are the most popular type we sell. They're the long, rectangular units that mount in a wall, typically below a TV or as a standalone focal point. The category has exploded in the last five years and there are dozens of options, but the Orion Slim stands above the rest for one reason: the flame is in a different league.
The Orion Slim uses Heliovision technology - a virtual flame system that projects a multi-dimensional fire image rather than relying on LED light refraction. The result is a flame with real depth, natural movement, and color that LED-based fireplaces simply can't replicate. Three flame patterns (wood-burning, hybrid, and gas-style) with six color options give you 18 display combinations, and the image quality stays consistent no matter what angle you're viewing from.
Why We Recommend It
- Heliovision flame technology produces the most realistic fire available in an electric fireplace. Customers regularly tell us visitors ask if it's gas.
- At 5-5/8" deep, it fits in a standard 2x6 wall for a clean recessed installation. A surface mount bracket is also included if you prefer to hang it directly on the wall.
- Built-in 5,000 BTU heater warms rooms up to 400 sq ft. Fully functional supplemental heat, not just a visual display.
- Modern Flames app control with Alexa and Google Home compatibility, weekly scheduling, and thermostat control.
- Ambient crackling sound system, multi-color ember bed, and adjustable downlighting complete the experience.
Worth Knowing
- 120V only. No 240V option, so heating tops out at 5,000 BTU. For larger rooms that need more heat, consider the Dimplex Evolve series which offers dual voltage.
- At $4,799 it's a premium purchase. If you want the linear look at a lower price point, the Napoleon Astound FlexMount and SimpliFire Allusion Platinum are strong options under $2,500.
- Hardwire or plug-in - both options available.
- Also available in 52", 76", and 100" sizes.

Dimplex Revillusion 36" - Neutral Brick (REV36-NB)
If you have an existing wood-burning or gas fireplace that you want to convert to electric - or you want to build a traditional-style fireplace into a new wall - you need an insert-style firebox. This is a completely different product category from linear fireplaces. Inserts are designed to look like a traditional hearth, with logs, a realistic fire bed, and a firebox that has real depth.
The Dimplex Revillusion is the industry standard here. Its Revillusion flame technology uses a partially frosted acrylic panel (Dimplex calls it the Mirage panel) that eliminates the mirror-like reflections you see on cheaper inserts. Instead, you get a clear view straight through the flames to the brick interior behind them. It's the feature that makes people stop and ask whether it's real.
Why We Recommend It
- Revillusion flame technology with ThruView full-depth design - you see through the flames to the back of the firebox, just like a real wood-burning fireplace. No visible mirrors or reflections.
- Handcrafted Realogs with internal LED lighting create a realistic pulsating glow. The logs look like hardwood, not plastic.
- Four backer finish options: Neutral Brick (our recommendation for versatility), Herringbone, Weathered Concrete, and Black. We feature the Neutral Brick because it complements the widest range of mantels and surrounds.
- Dual voltage: 120V out of the box (plug kit included), or hardwire to 208/240V for up to 8,786 BTU - enough to meaningfully heat a room up to 800 sq ft.
- Ambient light sensor automatically adjusts flame brightness to match the room's lighting conditions throughout the day.
- Available with optional front glass panel or open face for a true masonry look. Optional birch and fresh cut log upgrades available.
Worth Knowing
- At 12-1/8" deep, this requires significantly more wall depth than a linear fireplace. It's designed to fit into an existing fireplace opening or a purpose-built enclosure.
- No app control. The Revillusion uses a multi-function remote control and front panel controls. If smart home integration is important, this isn't the firebox for you.
- The 2-year Dimplex warranty is shorter than the 5-year warranty on Modern Flames products. That said, Dimplex has been making electric fireplaces longer than anyone, and the Revillusion platform is well-proven.
- Available in five sizes: 24", 30", 36", 36" Portrait (taller), and 42".

Modern Flames Orion Multi 60" (OR60-MULTI)
Three-sided electric fireplaces open up design possibilities that single-sided units can't touch. Room dividers, peninsula walls, corner installations, and bay windows all become options when you can view the flame from multiple angles. The challenge is finding a 3-sided unit where the flame actually looks good from every direction - and that's where most products fall short.
The Orion Multi solves this with the same Heliovision technology that makes the Orion Slim our top linear pick, but engineered for multi-sided viewing. The virtual flame maintains consistent image quality whether you're looking head-on, from the left, from the right, or at a steep angle. LED-based 3-sided fireplaces often look washed out or distorted from the sides. The Orion Multi doesn't have that problem.
Why We Recommend It
- Four installation configurations: front-facing (single-sided), left corner, right corner, or full bay (3-sided). Buy one unit, install it however your space requires.
- Heliovision virtual flame with an 18" tall viewing area - 3 inches taller than the Orion Slim. The larger flame window makes a real difference when the fireplace is the centerpiece of a room divider.
- Same flame customization as the Slim: three flame patterns, six flame colors, 18 total display combinations, multi-color ember bed and downlighting.
- Modern Flames app control with Alexa and Google Home. Weekly scheduling and thermostat included.
- Dual voltage (120V or 240V). At 240V, the built-in heater delivers 10,000 BTU and heats up to 1,000 sq ft - double the output of most electric fireplaces in this class.
- Ambient crackling sound system with adjustable volume. Includes Western Driftwood log set and black reflective crushed glass.
Worth Knowing
- At approximately 9" deep, the Orion Multi requires more wall depth than the Slim. You'll need a 2x10 wall or a purpose-built enclosure for a fully recessed install. Partial recess into a 2x4 wall is also an option.
- $5,299 is a significant investment. The Napoleon Trivista Primis is a 3-sided alternative at a lower price point, though it uses LED technology rather than Heliovision.
- Dual voltage: 120V (plug-in or hardwire) delivers 5,000 BTU for rooms up to 400 sq ft. Hardwire to 240V and it jumps to 10,000 BTU, heating up to 1,000 sq ft. That makes this one of the most powerful electric fireplaces on the market.
- Also available in 52", 76", 100", and 120" sizes.

Napoleon Entice 60" (NEFL60CFH-1)
Not every fireplace project involves construction. If you want to add a fireplace to a room without cutting into a wall, the wall mount category exists for exactly this reason. Hang it on the wall like a TV, plug it into a standard outlet, and you're done. No framing, no electrician, no drywall work.
The Napoleon Entice is our recommendation here because it executes the basics really well at a fair price. The nearly frameless design is clean and minimal, the LED flame looks good (especially the multi-color mode), and at just 5.44" deep it sits close to the wall without looking bulky. Napoleon has also given it the flexibility to be fully or partially recessed if you decide to build it in later - so it's not a dead-end purchase if your plans change.
Why We Recommend It
- Ready to use out of the box. Includes wall mounting bracket and hardware. Hang on the wall, plug into any standard 120V outlet, and you're up and running in under 30 minutes.
- At 5.44" deep with a nearly frameless design, it sits tight against the wall without protruding. The slim profile looks intentional, not like an afterthought.
- Multi-color flame and ember bed options. Blue, orange, and multi-color flame settings with a cycling multi-color ember bed. Not as customizable as the Orion's Heliovision, but attractive in person.
- Can be fully or partially recessed later. If you remodel down the road, the Entice transitions from surface mount to built-in without replacing the unit.
- Five sizes (36", 42", 50", 60", 72") and a consistent feature set across the entire range. Pick the size that fits your wall.
- Crystal media included. Optional birch and driftwood log sets available if you prefer a more traditional look.
Worth Knowing
- No app or smart home control. The Entice uses a handheld remote and touch panel with touch-sensitive controls that dim when not in use. If you want Alexa or app integration, you'll need to step up to the Napoleon Astound or Luminex series.
- LED technology, not virtual/LCD. The flame is good for the price, but it won't approach the realism of Heliovision. This is a trade-off for the dramatically lower price.
- 2-year Napoleon warranty. Shorter than Modern Flames' 5-year coverage, which is worth noting at this investment level.
- 5,000 BTU on 120V only. Adequate supplemental heat for rooms up to 400 sq ft.

The Bottom Line
Want the most realistic linear fireplace? The Modern Flames Orion Slim is the answer. Heliovision technology is a generation ahead of LED, and the 5-year warranty backs that up.
Replacing an existing wood or gas fireplace? The Dimplex Revillusion 36" is the gold standard for insert-style fireboxes. The ThruView design makes it the most convincing traditional firebox replacement we've seen.
Need multi-sided viewing for a room divider or peninsula? The Orion Multi gives you Heliovision flames from three sides with the same flame quality as the Slim. Dual voltage means it can also heat up to 1,000 sq ft on 240V - making it both a design piece and a serious heat source.
Want a fireplace with zero construction? The Napoleon Entice hangs on the wall and plugs in. Under $1,600, five size options, and it can be recessed later if you change your mind. The simplest path to a fireplace in any room.
