Dimplex Opti-Myst® Plumb Kit

I installed my Dimplex after my condo's discontinued gas fireplace fell apart and could neither be fixed nor replaced. I saw the Dimplex online and purchased one, hoping it would look as great in person. I'm a 60+ year-old woman who has a lot of do-it-yourself experience, so I gutted the gas fireplace myself, hired a licensed plumber to seal the gas line, spray painted the remaining empty metal box a flat black, then installed the Dimplex 1000 myself. If you look at it from several feet away, you cannot tell that it's not genuine fire. But if someone stands right in front of the fireplace and looks down at the "logs and flames," you can see the LED lights inside the unit. I wanted everyone to think it was a real fire and not hear people say, "it's fake." I already had a 40-year-old firescreen with a design I really like. Took the firescreen to a local metal fabricator and asked him to create a steel screen using the same design, which I then screwed to the front of my fireplace. This screen (which cost about $500 but was worth it for me) allows people to see the "flames and smoke," but they cannot see through the screen well enough to see the lights inside the Dimplex unit. Problem solved. I will try to attach videos to illustrate. I have had the Dimplex 1000 a year now. Visually it's worth 5 stars. I've only given it 4 stars because every 4-5 hours, the two water reservoirs must be refilled which is a hassle because it requires lifting off the tray with the logs on it to reach the reservoirs which must be taken out, refilled at a faucet, then reinserted. It's not difficult. You do need to be cautious in regards to the fake logs. They break easily. Several of mine arrived broken, but Electric Fireplaces Plus was great about sending me a replacement. This winter I will run a plex water line to the unit so refilling the reservoirs will no longer be necessary. That requires an additional purchase of a "Dimplex OptiMyst Plumb Kit."
